Call for redesign of Warwick park cycle route

HIGHWAYS officers at Warwickshire County Council are considering changes to a popular cycle lane across St Nicholas Park.

Hundreds of schoolchildren cycle through the park but as Severn Trent currently has the lane dug up as part of its £800,000 sewer renewal scheme. Edmondscote Road residents including Charles King-Smith have written in to suggest it be reinstated without the central area designated for bicycles only.

Mr King-Smith, who is in his seventies, said: “I cycle myself but have always thought the two white lines down the centre with pedestrians pushed to either side was a mistake.

“The contractors could save half the paint by just having one white line with cyclists on one side and pedestrians on the other.”
