Blue, white, pink...what’s the story Balamory?

TOWN councillors have already said no. Now members of the district council are being recommended to take a firm stand in the matter of a householder who painted the outside of her Warwick cottage bright pink.

The Grade II listed cottage in St Nicholas Church Street, next to the New Bowling Green pub, was already catching the eyes of all who passed by, before it was realised that planning consent would be needed.

But when a retrospective application was made, town councillors objected it. Someone even suggested that while the house might look fine if it was situated somewhere like Tobermory - the setting for the BBC children’s television series Balamory - it looked all wrong on the edge of the town centre.

Efforts by the Courier to contact the resident have failed. However, when they meet next Tuesday (Feb 5) district planners will be advised to reject the colour scheme and commence enforcement action unless it is changed back to off-white, cream or light grey.
