AN inspirational talk by disabled skier Anna Turney has led to members of Warwick Rotary Club awarding her their biggest grant towards training for the paralympics in Russia in 2014.
The Chase Meadow woman, who broke her back during a snowboarding incident in 2006 and then fought her way back to pursue a life in sport, despite spending most of her days in a wheelchair, was delighted to be presented with £4,700.
Rotary president Roy Joyner and former president John Fletcher travelled to Anna’s home to present her with a cheque for £4,700.
Mr Joyner said: “I don’t think at the Rotary we had ever experienced a talk like Anna’s. It seems she is doing so much to get herself into the next paralympics that when we held a discussion after she’d left the meeting our vote was unanimous to give her our maximum award.”
Anna has also been encouraged by customers of the Rose and Crown pub in Market Place, Warwick, who competed in a set of whacky games to help fund part of her expensive training schedule.
