A rattling good yarn: Warwick traffic never calmer as noisy traffic calming measures are repaired

TRAFFIC on the main road through the centre of Warwick was halted again today (Monday October 22) as more repairs took place to earlier roadworks.

High Street and Jury Street are closed for five days of work at the Jury Street, Church Street and Castle Street junctions to rectify rattling speed humps.

Humps at the junction with Swan Street underwent the same work in August to correct a “technical design issue”, with loose blocks repaired and tarmac laid between the crossing points.

Access to shops and businesses is open as usual, and town centre shopkeepers have taken a grimly humorous stance, with some commenting on social networking site Twitter that legendary tunnels beneath Warwick should be reopened to help motorists.

Warwickshire County Council’s strategic director for communities Monica Fogerty said: “We have identified a design issue with the construction of the raised tables. The repair works carried out at Swan Street junction earlier this year have proved successful and we now intend to carry out similar works at the Jury Street, Church Street and Castle Street junction.

“There will be disruption to traffic while these works are undertaken, and we apologise for this.

“We would like to thank all residents, businesses and motorists for their continued patience and ongoing support with these works. We will ensure the works are carried out as efficiently as possible to minimise disruption.”
