The temporary landlord of a Warwick pub has agreed to take up a three year lease on the business just ahead of it being offered on the open market.
Matt Willoughby, aged 29, is now planning a major refurbishment at the Foresters Arms in Crompton Street where he has been a stand-in licensee for the past 11 months.
On Monday he signed a freehouse management agreement with the Wellington Pub Company, which is offering leases on a number of premises.
Matt said: “This will be my first pub and I have big plans for improvements.
“I’ve already created a children’s play area and barbecue facilities at the back and am about to redecorate and take on a chef.”
The pub, adjacent to Warwick Racecourse, was closed for four months before Matt took over last year.
It still has stables at the back where last Christmas Matt offered shelter to a man who was sleeping rough and locals joined forces to make the place more comfortable.
