Youngsters at Newburgh Primary School in Warwick can now cross the Stratford Road with confidence thanks to new “lollipop man” Stan Elswood.

The road did not meet the county council’s strict criteria for a patrol officer but worried parents appealed for a grant at the town’s community forum and the county council agreed to manage the post.

Warwick town and county councillor John Holland was among the first to welcome Mr Elswood to the new job.
