South Warwickshire schools perform well in national league tables

The hard work put in by last year’s GCSE and A-level pupils in Warwickshire has been reflected in good results in the Department of Education’s secondary school league tables, which were published today (Thursday).

At Southam College, 89 per cent of GCSE pupils gained five or more A* to C grades, while 99 per cent of A-level pupils gained three or more A* to E grades.

Also demonstrating an outstanding performance was Kenilworth School, where 85 per cent of GSCE pupils gained five or more A* to C grades, while 95 per cent of A-level pupils gained three or more A* to E grades.

The respective figures for Myton School in Warwick were 75 (GCSEs) and 91 per cent (A-levels); for North Leamington School 61 per cent (GCSEs) and 76 per cent (A-levels); for the Aylesford School in Warwick 66 per cent (GCSEs) and 55 per cent (A-levels); for Trinity School in Leamington 59 per cent (GCSEs) and 96 per cent (A-levels); Campion School in Leamington 58 per cent (GCSEs) and 56 per cent (A-levels) and for Kineton High School 74 per cent (GCSEs) and 46 per cent (A-levels).

Gunny Patel, acting deputy headteacher at Trinity School, said: “We are very proud of our A-level students of 2013. Their performance was the best we have ever had. This follows a continuing trend of rapid improvement in our sixth form as reflected in all the key measures.

“All the staff at Trinity work exceptionally hard to push our students on, with high quality teaching and learning and targeted interventions where needed. We know that our results for 2014 will improve further.

Myton School headteacher Paul MacIntyre said: “The record results at GCSE and A-level in 2013 are just reward for the hard work and commitment of the students, parents and staff at Myton.

“The board of governors and staff are particularly pleased that the school’s commitment to highly academic and respected qualifications is reflected in these tables.

“With almost a third of all A-level grades awarded being A* or A, and having such a high average grade for every academic A-level entry is exceptional.”
