New nature reserve opens at Southam College

Southam College pupils at the new nature reserve.

Mr Wright visited the college and made a speech praising the nature reserve and what it will provide for students.

He said: “For students learning about the environment that surrounds them is a vital part of their education.”

Southam mayor Cllr Mike Brooks, who was also at the opening, said: “This reserve will help students respect and develop an understanding of nature”.

The opening was the result of a three-year project to create a nature reserve from disused waste land as a curriculum and community resource.

It was made possible by the support of businesses and charities connected with Southam.

Those to have donated resources and finance included Bloor Homes, CEMEX, the Ford Trust, Southam Agricultural Services, Southam Carpets, Bill Chater Carpentry, J.D. Finch builders, Roger Frogley and sons, Southam Co-operative store and Premier Cars.

Charities who made donations included Southam 2000 Rotary, Southam Lions and Southam College Parent Teachers and Students Association.

Chris Philpott, Eco Club Leader, who raised funds and designed the reserve, said: “The project would not have been possible without the hard work and commitment of Eco Club members.”
