A Warwick man suffered a stab wound to his head and cuts to his arm after being woken in the middle of the night by masked men who kicked down the door of a house on the Woodloes estate.
The man and a woman, who were also in the property in Boswell Grove, near Deansway, were woken by the noise of people running up and down the stairs just before 1.30am on Monday (September 23).
As the woman rang for help, the man confronted two masked intruders who were carrying baseball bats. He was stabbed with some weapon as the pair snatched up mobile phones and gaming consoles and left him bleeding.
The men, described as white, of stocky build and about 6ft tall, then made off in the direction of the parking area to the rear of flats in Harmer Close.
When the emergency services arrived, the injured man was taken to Warwick Hospital were he was admitted for treatment. The woman was shocked but appears to have been unhurt.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the horrific attack which is highly unusual in Warwick.
Detective Constable Phil Hewish and Detective Constable Sean Tonelli at Leamington police station are asking for anyone who saw anybody acting suspiciously in the area between midnight and 2am, as the pair made their getaway, to dial 101.
