Four horses were led to safety, but two others were trapped on the other side of the high water.

Firefighters waded through the water using wading poles to reach the pair, where head collars and lead ropes were fitted to help lead the animals to safety.

A fire and rescue spokesperson said: “The owners were delighted to have Hector and Oliver back safe.

“All the horses were checked over and seemed none the worse for their ordeal.”
