Police are making the latest bicycle recognition stencilling system available to all Warwick and Leamington cyclists.

Police are making the latest bicycle recognition stencilling system available to all Warwick cyclists.

Starting tomorrow (Thursday) people will be able to take along their bikes to various locations and have them marked and their ownership details placed on a national database.

Across Warwick district hundreds of valuable bikes are stolen every year. Many that are subsequently recovered end up being auctioned off because their rightful owners cannot be traced.

Police say unlike the old “smart water” system, the new stencils, which do no damage to the bikes, can be updated on the database if owners move house or sell the machine.

Tomorrow (Aug 21) they will be offering the free stencilling service outside Sainsbury’s at Saltisford from 11am until 2pm.

Other sessions will be held at The Space Community Centre, Coten End, between 11am and 3pm on August 30; at Chase Meadow Community Centre between 3-5pm on September 3; at Tesco in Emscote Road from 9-11am on September 4 and at The Gap Community Centre in Oakwood Grove, from 9-11am on September 15.
