Members of the Leamington Fairtrade steering group are pictured launching a directory of Fairtrade services in the town last year.

Free bananas produced by fairly-waged workers will be handed out in Leamington as part of celebrations for Fairtrade Fortnight, which runs until March 9.

Leamington is officially a Fairtrade town with its own Fairtrade steering group and directory of services available that have been recognised by the mark, which ensures that producers of items such as bananas, chocolate, coffee and cotton are paid a fair wage.

Tomorrow (Friday), the group and town mayor Cllr Judith Clarke will launch Warwick district’s Fairtrade bus tour outside Leamington town hall at 10am, while on Sunday (March 2), there will be Fairtrade display stands and competitions - as well as free bananas - at the Royal Priors from 9am to 4pm.

On Sunday March 9, the Dormer Place Conference Centre is hosting a Fairtrade cafe from 10am to 1pm.
