The move is part of a council restructure which has already taken effect and means the loss of dedicated managers, or town development officers, for Leamington, Warwick and Kenilworth. The trio were responsible for offering public and business support, town trade, events, and being a port of call for public complaints or questions in each of the towns.

In Kenilworth this included creating events including Foodie Fortnight and helping to manage public complaints over the town’s horse fair.

The three posts have now been replaced with a district-wide business support and events team in what council officers have said will not impact on public services.

A district council spokesperson said the decision was made as part of a wider review of services, and the changes have now been made.

She said: “Warwick District Council has undertaken a review of the town centre management structure.

“Following this the decision was made that the events and business support function for the towns of Kenilworth, Leamington Spa and Warwick needed to be strengthened and given more resilience and flexibility.

“The new team will be meeting with the town centre partnerships and business partners in early May.”

Nicki Curwood and Paul Garrison who help the positions in Warwick and Kenilworth have joined the newly formed team and will continue to work for the towns.

It is not yet known what changes could mean in Leamington, but the move has raised concern among town councillors fearing the loss of a link with the district.

Councillors at Kenilworth Town Council’s last meeting voiced concerns over the changes. Cllr John Cooke (Con, St John’s) said the council should write to the deputy chief executive asking for a meeting to see what the changes will mean for the town.
