DESPITE a modern-day harvest of tins, youngsters at Newburgh Primary School in Warwick did enjoy a real taste of autumn when they picked the pears from a tree growing in their courtyard.

They then put their crop to good use, baking the fruit into cakes as part of their harvest festival celebrations.

Headteacher Andrew Smith said: “The children picked all the fruit from our tree and, under supervision, used them to make four trays of cakes which they then served to the parents who attended our festival.

As in previous years, all the tins of food brought in to the school in Kipling Avenue will be donated to the Salvation Army’s Way Ahead project.
