When Monica Fletcher went to Buckingham Palace to be awarded an OBE for her services to the Warwick-based charity Education for Health, she couldn’t resist telling Prince Charles she expected him to still be wearing wellington boots, following his recent visit to the Somerset Levels.

The prince laughed, although he would have been even more amused if he’d seen Monica rushing up to the palace carrying her high heels in her hands after the train she and her husband Dr John Wiggins took to London was delayed by the floods. Monica is pictured with her husband and receiving her OBE from Prince Charles.
