Bogus callers have been tricking people who live in Stratford district into believing they are entitled to a refund on their council tax.
The district council has issued an alert to people in the area to ignore such calls, which it says are not genuine.
Dave Webb, head of enterprise, housing and revenues, said: “If callers come to your house claiming they are from the district council and that you are owed a refund for council tax and you have any doubt regarding their identity, we advise you call the police on 101.”
All council employees carry identity cards which can be verified by calling the council on 01789 267575. Anyone concerned should call this number.
