Australia Day marked at Coten End

SOME of the youngest children at Coten End Primary School in Warwick celebrated Australia Day this week with a whistle-stop tour of the country courtesy of real-life Monarch airline pilot Duncan Vaux.

Mr Vaux insisted they pack bags for the flight and then gave them illustrated stops at the most interesting places, including the famous Bondi Beach, the Great Barrier Reef and Ayers Rock.

The imaginary tour of the mind was in support of Year One’s latest learning topic, which is entitled Around The World In 30 Days.

The actual Australia Day was January 26 this year and what few of the children would have realised was that the man regarded as the father of the Australian Federation was the late Sir Henry Parkes who was born just over ten miles up the road in the Canley area of Coventry.
