Leamington’s old sewers are dug out as new ones take over

Severn Trent Water and its contract partner NMCNomenca have closed Priory Terrace between Church Road and Mill Street until mid-February so workers can remove the old station, which is no longer needed because new pumping stations and bigger sewers have been installed for the area.

Meanwhile, the ongoing improvement works - part of the overall £11 million project to upgrade the whole town’s sewer network - are continuing on High Street between Clemens Street and Althorpe Street.

Engineers from National Grid are currently re-routing gas pipes betwen sewer and water pipe upgrading takes place. Work is expected to be complete on this section of the road in mid-March.

Severn Trent Water’s senior programme engineer Chris Keys said: “With the recent storms, our work to improve sewers in Leamington has really made a huge difference, with businesses and homes now protected from sewer flooding.

“As the recent improvements to the sewer system start work – such as the pumping station on Station Approach – the old equipment is being retired.

“While we work, we appreciate the ongoing patience and understanding of the local community. We’re pleased to say that our work to bring the Victorian sewer system into the 21st century is still on track for completion in autumn.”

The work will continue along High Street towards Radford Road, with the whole project - which began in 2010 - expected to be complete in November this year.
