Kenilworth Books in Talisman found out they were shortlisted for the British Book Awards’ Independent Bookshop of the Year last week, and will find out if they have won on Wednesday March 15 at a ceremony held at the London Book Fair.

It is up against five other bookshops in the ‘Midlands and Wales’ category - and it is the only bookshop in Warwickshire to have been shortlisted.

Judy Brook, who runs Kenilworth Books, said: “For us to be shortlisted is brilliant. I’m delighted and it makes you feel very proud.

“There’s some very stiff competition - we know some of them on the list and it’s going to be a tough battle.

“But if we don’t get any further it’s still a great achievement to be shortlisted.”

This was the first time Kenilworth Books had applied for such an award.

All applicants had to sum up why their bookshop deserved to be nominated by highlighting what they had achieved in the last year.

If the shop wins the regional award, it will compete for the national version of the award at the British Book Awards ceremony on Monday May 8.
