The second Kaizen Walk - the first of which took place in 2012 and raised £13,500 for the Coventry and Warwickshire branch of Macmillan Cancer Support - takes place in the grounds of Princethorpe College on July 12 and 13.

Teams will take it in turns to walk laps around a track between noon on the 12th and 9am on the 13th, while there will be stalls, activities, entertainment, tombolas and cakes sales going on throughout the event and tents set up for participants to rest, sleep or eat at while their team-mates are walking.

And at dusk, there will be a ‘Wall of Reflection’ ceremony, during which jars decorated with messages about loved ones who have died due to or are suffering from cancer are filled with sand lit up with candles.

Steph Brown, who is volunteering as chairman of the event’s organising committee, said: “The Kaizen Walk is a great way to spend time with your friends, family and colleagues while raising money for a seriously worthwhile cause.

“Everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer. Taking part in the Kaizen Walk is a positive way to be part of your local community and help make a real difference.”

Those who sign up will be asked to raise as much sponsorship as possible, which will be donated to Macmillan, which funds practical, medical and financial support for cancer patients and campaigns for improvements to cancer care.

Registration costs £10 to cover insurance costs, but spectators can attend the event free of charge. All activities taking place on the day will be raising funds for Macmillan.

Everyone taking part will be invited to tuck into the ‘Fry Up Finale’ on the Sunday morning.

Steph added: “We would love to hear from anyone who wants to find out more about the Kaizen Walk and how they can get involved. It doesn’t matter if they haven’t fundraised before. This is a unique event and every single person in Coventry, Warwickshire and the rest of the UK can play a part.”
