Jaguar Land Rover plans new £20 million site in south Warwickshire

Jaguar Land Rover has unveiled plans for a £20 million technical centre at Prologis Park – which will create 100 new jobs on the site of the old Peugeot car plant.

The car maker has chosen the Ryton site to be its global centre of excellence for the creation of luxury, limited edition and extreme performance vehicles.

Operations at the facility, which will be known as the company’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) Technical Centre, are scheduled to begin towards the end of the year.

A team of 150 specialists will be based there and 100 of these jobs will be new, said Jaguar Land Rover (JLR).

French-owned Peugeot closed its plant in 2007 with the loss of 2,300 jobs – ending manufacturing there going back more than 60 years involving Rootes and Chrysler.

John Edwards, managing director of Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations, said: “We are excited by the capability and potential that this new facility will give us.”

The centre’s facilities will feature a VIP customer commissioning suite for bespoke services and premium vehicle personalisation. The cars will be completed by hand.

The location will complement JLR’s engineering, design and testing facilities at Gaydon and Whitley, Coventry, and the new Jaguar Heritage workshop at Browns Lane, Coventry.

The first vehicle to roll out of the new technical centre will be the Jaguar F-Type Project 7, the most powerful and fastest production Jaguar to date, with just 250 models being made.
