Inspirational Claudia the reason why Leamington man has saddled up for cancer charity

Jonathan Williams, 25, of Range Meadow Close, has been joined by three friends as they take on the Cherbourg to Santander challenge which started on Monday and will end about three weeks later on Wednesday August 13.

He was inspired to take on the challenge after losing his girlfriend Claudia Jay Paul to Ewing’s sarcoma eight years ago.

Mr Williams said: “She was an inspiration to me – she never gave up and always looked on the good side of life.

“After going to a Bone Cancer Research Trust conference and seeing how the money raised helps those who’ve suffered or lost loved ones is simply amazing, which is why I want to help this fantastic cause.”

The quartet will be cycling against the elements without any support car and have to complete at least 52 miles a day to make it home in time.

Mr Williams said: “All we will be taking is a tent, sleeping bag and a few changes of clothes so it should be an adventure to say the least.

“None of us are particularly strong or experienced cyclists, so this trip will represent a monumental challenge for all four of us.
