Warwick mayor Bob Dhillon supported the Lions’ World Sight Day last Thursday when he discarded his usual glasses and donned a special pair that only provided severely restricted vision.
Since 1972 the Eye Camps funded by the international Lions’ movement have restored the sight of some 750,000 people living mainly in Asian countries.
But Cllr Dhillon - who has been beset with problems within his Conservative party and over district council expense claims - was determined to push all that aside and talk to people about the need for regular eye checks in the UK.
Lion Pauline Fanti told him the checks not only assess sight but detect conditions like diabetes, some cancers, macular degeneration and high blood pressure.
