Residents at a village care home are supporting a member of staff in his efforts to ‘bring some sunshine’ to the family of a little boy with a life-shortening disease.

Cubbington Mill Care Home’s maintenance manager Waldemar Stezycki has set himself the challenge to run three long-distance races to raise money towards family friend Patryk Nowak’s treatment.

Patryk, four, has spinal muscular atrophy (SMA2), a a genetic disease that causes muscle weakness and progressive loss of movement.

Mr Stezycki has set himself the challenge of running three long distance races in a short space of time - the 10k Shakespeare, the Silverstone Half Marathon and finally the Manchester Marathon on April to help the youngster.

Mr Stezycki said: “Please support the costly treatment of this little boy who smiles so cutely.

“I’m a proud and happy father of two boys, so I know how important is when you can see your child is growing healthy and happy.

“Please help me to give a bit of sunshine to this lovely family.”

The survival period of patients suffering from SMA2 depends on the level of care and the intensity of prevention and treatment of complications.

The correct treatment in due time reduces the degree of a patient’s respiratory insufficiency and, consequently, prolongs their survival period .

Donations can be made and more information can be found through Mr Stezycki’s my donate page by searching for him on the My Donate website of by searching for Runs for Patryk on Facebook.

Cait Divers, of Cubbington Mill said: “All of the residents, friends and family of Cubbington Mill Care Home are supporting Waldemar on e hundred per cent and wish him the best for all of his runs.

Donations will be accepted until May 6.
