Contemplation area opened at Saltisford
Tony Hales, chairman of the Canal and River Trust, was in Warwick last week to officially open a major landscaping project involving six 3.5 tonnes lock gates which have been restored and set amidst wheelchair accessible paths with a wifi hotspot.
The gates on the Lapworth flight of locks are now part of a new contemplation garden on the Saltisford arm of the canal created by dozens of volunteers overseen by Alan Lorentzen.
Mr Hales said the gadden would allow visitors to appreciate the raw simple engineering beauty of the long oak timbers, hand-crafted in the West Midlands, as close quarters.
