New Co-op ‘will boost spending on Woodloes’

WORK on a new Co-operative supermarket for the Woodloes estate is due to start at the end of this year with a view to opening by early next summer.

Planning consent for the 5,000 square foot store was given despite a 600-strong petition and objections by Warwick councillors who feared it would lead to the closure of existing shops on the estate.

But on Wednesday Simon Davis, director of Midland Assured, the Co-op’s property and development consultants, said: “In our pre-application public consultation process it was found the vast majority of local residents shop at either Tesco’s on the Emscote Road or Sainsbury’s at Saltisford.”

He said more food retailing locally would retain custom on the estate and increase the spend in the vicinity, including at the existing shops.
