Measures to avoid flooding will cause delays
A ROAD improvement scheme started in Stratford Road this week with a view to reducing the flood risk on what is a major Warwick route.
The project involves widening the water course and demolishing and replacing existing culverts beneath the A429 Stratford Road and Leafield Farm access point.
Contractors, who began the job this week, expect it to take 24 weeks to complete.
Stratford Road will remain open although a speed restrictions will be in force and motorists are advised there will be the occasional need for temporary traffic lights to ensure public safety.
Access to private driveways will be maintained although some temorary closures to footpaths and cycleways are inevitable say the county council.
A spokesman added: “Every effort will be made to minimise disruption and inconvenience during this work which is intended to reduce the risk of flooding.”
Residents of Stratford Road and the adjoining streets have long been campaigning for an extension of the double yellow lines and improved safety measures.
A petition was recently submitted to the county council and a full assessment is being carried out.
