HUNDREDS of people turned out for this year's Warwick carnival, with even more money raised than last year.
The annual carnival is one of the highlights of the town's calendar with people lining the streets to follow a procession through the town, before enjoying a wide range of entertainments in St Nicholas' Park.

Charles King Smith of Warwick Lions said: "I think it all went very well. The turnout was very good, and we raised even more than last year which is wonderful.

"For me the highlight was during the prizegiving when the town crier, Graham Sutherland, offered to give out a prize for Warwick Lions club loyalty, not knowing that it was actually going to himself!

"He has supported the carnival for years and thoroughly deserved some recognition.

"There were hundreds of people lining the streets for the march, and well over 600 came to the carnival. The weather was lovely which really helped the turnout.

"We are very grateful to all the people who constructed the floats, the people who lent their trucks for the floats, and all the other people who put work into making the day a success."

The best musical was the Warwick Woodloes' performance of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, while Warwick Hospital won best float with it's South Pacific theme.

The wives of Warwick Lions performed the Wizard of Oz, while Warwick Wanderers did Oliver Twist.

The carnival raised around £5,000 for various charities.

The following raffle ticket numbers did not claim their prizes: 2264, 1150, 2121, 2106, 2738, 2362, 2520, 1122, 1164, 2727, 1356, 1303, 1328.
