Warwick endurance runner Jez Bragg hopes to rank among the world's best in a 100-mile alpine race starting on August 29.
The 27-year-old hopes to complete the 166km route of the North Face Ultra Trail around Mont Blanc in around 24 hours - half the time race organisers have allocated.

Competitors will set off at 6.30pm, running through the night on mountain paths and trails without stopping for food or sleep. The course begins in Chamonix and passes through Switzerland and Italy at altitudes of up to 2,600m in its circuit of the mountain.

Mr Bragg, who trains in Snowdonia and the Peak District, said: "It goes without saying it's extremely tough. It is an extreme test of endurance and it is also running in some of the most beautiful scenery in Europe.

"I'm going out there to compete with the best."
