Warwick Rotary Club has welcomed its first woman president.
Thelma Atkins was appointed to the role on June 25, taking over from the past year’s president Alan Bailey.
The former Westgate Primary School headteacher was the club’s second woman member when she joined in 2003. There are now four, but Mrs Atkins predicts the organisation will have no difficulty recruiting more women. She said: “I didn’t ask for any special treatment. We are rotarians first.”
Mrs Atkins, of Coventry Road, is more concerned with bringing in new members of either gender, but believes making fundraising activities fun is the way to bring in new members.
Warwick Inner Wheel Club has also appointed a new president. Norman Hibben will take over from Patience Ifill for the forthcoming year.
