Resident Linda Radley took this photograph of a rare bird after she spotted it perched on a Warwick roof top.
The bittern, which is an endangered species and has red conservation status, landed on a roof next to the town's fire station in Albert Street on Christmas Eve.

Ms Radley said: "We had a special Christmas treat when a bittern landed on the building next to our house.

"This was a huge surprise as we live in the centre of Warwick, which is not quite the usual habitat for a bittern.

"Initially I was a little worried that it was injured but it flew off after about ten minutes and seemed OK."

Louise Pedersen from the RSPB's Birmingham office said: "The cold weather was making it extremely difficult for these rare birds to catch fish in ice-locked wetland areas and many were forced to venture further afield in search of food.

"I imagine that Warwick's scarcest visitor was taking a well-earned break before moving on."
