New electronic surveys are in use at Warwick Hospital to help ensure patients get the care they need.
From Monday anyone who stays at the hospital and has a bedside television will be able to rate their experience using touchscreen technology.
While patients will always be able to raise concerns with members of staff, the aim of the survey is to allow matrons to identify common problems more easily.
Head of nursing and midwifery Helen Walton is spearheading the project.
She told a meeting of the hospital board last week: "With most patient surveys you are looking back several months, but this is realtime information for ward managers to use.
"They will be able to look at the results on an hourly basis if they want to. We will be doing the trial on a weekly basis. It's anonymous so it can't be traced back to the patient.
"Every patient will be told about the survey and that we value their comments and feedback. It will not be a one-off - patients can do it as often as they want to."
The system has been offered as a free trial to the hospital by Premiere Telesolutions and will be available to more than 300 patients.
The questionnaire is based on the CARE acronym - communication, attitude, responsiveness and environment.
Its questions range from 'Were you ever bothered by a noise at night from hospital staff?' to 'How satisfied were you with the courtesy of the doctors?'.
The results will be collected every day and then broken down on a ward-by-ward basis. A similar scheme is also being considered for out-patients and those who use accident and emergency.
* The hospital's Patient Advice Liaison Services received 413 calls from patients between June and August this year. The top concern was delays in outpatient appointments.
A total of 57 formal complaints were made about South Warwickshire General Hospitals Trust - which runs the hospital - during the same period, with the top subjects being admissions, discharge and transfer arrangements.
