Olympic medal winners are among previous competitors at Warwick Cycle Races, which will take place on September 14.
Paul Manning, who won a gold medal in the team pursuit race and Chris Newton who won bronze in the men’s points race, as well as Steve Cummings who will take part in the men’s road race have each taken part in the annual event, which will be held in
a circuit of streets in Warwick town centre. And there is anticipation about the future of 17-year-old George Atkins, who will be taking part in this year’s elite race as part of the Pearl Izumi team.

George is on the Olympic development plan and in 2007 he won the European Olympic Criterium Race held in Serbia.

Organisers say the races have been increasing in popularity among both cyclists and visitors expect this year to be no different.

Racing starts at around midday and continues until 6pm, with junior girls’ and boys’ races and tricycle and recumbent events. The event is being organised by Warwickshire County Council, British Cycling, Warwick District Council and TravelWise.

It will also be supported by environmental group Action 21, which will be providing a free ‘Dr Bike’ repair service for members of the public during the afternoon.

General manager Richard Hicks said: “We are sure that the races will help to demonstrate just how much fun cycling can be.”
