Mental agility and physical speed were both needed at a maths competition held at a Warwick school on Wednesday.
Myton School hosted the UK Mathematics Trust’s regional final in which 22 schools vied for places in the national final on June 23.
Events included a relay in which pupils had to combine speed running between bases with speed at solving maths problems, mathematical crosswords and a head to head competition in which pairs of teams raced to identify the secret rule linking a series of numbers.
King Edward VI School in Edgbaston won the event, in which Myton School came tenth.
Myton head of maths Clare Callaghan was not disappointed. She said: “This was absolutely brilliant because it really challenges some of our bright students. Some of the questions are incredibly demanding.”
