Concerns about increased crime, noise and polution have delayed plans to open a new takeaway in the Forbes Estate.
The application to convert the shop in Shakespeare Avenue was put to a Warwick District Council planning committee on Wednesday after a petition against the proposal was submitted.
Residents were concerned that the new takeaway would encourage more
youths to stand outside the shopping area and would increase the litter, noise and smells coming from it.
They were also concerned it would have a seating area which would allow people to "hang" around the shop.

Click here to email your reportEnvironmental health officers said it would have objected to the application if there had not already been a fish and chip shop along the same stretch of road. They recommended that the trading hours were limited to 8am to 11pm.
Warwick Town Council also objected to the plans because it believed it could result in unacceptable levels of parking, noise and odours in the area.
At the district council planning meeting in Leamington town hall Coun Michael Kinson (Warwick West, Con) said: "Members may not be aware but quite a large amount of money has been spent on this area. There have been constant problems going back for years."
He added that Shakespeare Avenue was being refurbished but was suprised that planning officers had not asked for police views on the application.
Coun Bertie MacKay (Stoneleigh, Ind) said: "We are going to encourage people to hang around there."
The shop is part of a row of six units and has two floors of flats above and has a rear service road. It was last used as a butcher's but has been empty for some time.
Councillors decided to defer the application to get views from the police and to ask the district council's housing deparment, which owns a number of the flats on the street, what it thought of the plans.
