Family business stays mobile

A member of a family business which traded in Warwick from the 1940s has survived in the motor trade by adapting to change.

Gary Harris is now offering a mobile repair service after being made redundant from Falcon Motors in Bowling Green Street, Warwick, due to redevelopment of the site for housing.

Gary’s family has traded in Warwick for many years. He said: “I have been part of the community of Warwick for almost 50 years, with 30 plus years in the motor trade and I plan to serve the Warwick community for many more years.”

He has submitted some family photos showing the family business, which dates back to a shop in Market Street in the 1940s. The shop traded there until the 1960s when Market Street was redevoloped.

The family mobile grocery shop is also pictured. It ran alongside the shop in Market Street and the market stall in Market Place.

Gary was made redundant in January and is now following the family business of offering a mobile service alongside a newly established premises in Lock Lane, off Millers Road.

Gary said: “My boss retired after 22 years of trading in Bowling Green Street and this left me deciding to carry on the Falcon Motors business. At present I am offering a mobile repair service as trying to relocate the garage has become very dificult.

“I even offer a free collection service for MOTs. My business is growing and customers like the mobile service which will carry on even with the premises open.”
