James Hawkesford, managing director of family owned firm of estate agents and general practice chartered surveyors Hawkesford, was last week asked to stand in as auctioneer in a London auction house.
Hawkesford is well known for its local auctions and normally carries out a couple of sales a year at the Warwick Arms Hotel.
But on Thursday James was standing on the rostrum in an auction room conducting a sale of 40 lots for the MS Auction House in Portman Square, West London.
He said: “We had sold a property at auction for the director of MS Auctions and when their regular auctioneer had to pull out he rang and asked if I would fill in.
“I have always loved selling by auction so was only too keen to pack my gavel and jump on a train.”
Hawkesford will be conducting its next auction on Tuesday October 14.
