Leamington artist’s picture perfect pets on canvas

Labrador Looking by Shirley Cherry.

BIG ones, little ones, cheeky ones, funny ones - a Leamington artist with a passion for pooches is showcasing her wide-ranging portraits alongside other creatives in the town centre tomorrow (Saturday).

Shirley Cherry, who runs Dogtastic Portraits, will paint any breed and is interested in the differences between the textures of their coats, their mannerisms and markings.

People will be able to meet her and see her work at the Leamington Contemporary Arts Fair in Livery Street tomorrow (Saturday).

She said: “In my dog portraits I try to capture the vitality, energy and expression in these wonderful animals. Each dog has its own distinctive personality which is expressed through the pose, mannerisms and colour palette.

“I work in acrylic, pastels and mixed media. I like using bold colours and having a sense of drama in my pictures.

“I loved the last arts fair I attended at the end of October. It was great to be able to chat to people about their dogs and in some instances meet the animals themselves. I’m looking forward to the next one and hope I get to meet more dog owners there.”

The fair, which runs from 10am to 5pm, will feature a range of artists who will also be selling their work.
