Join Jack in his magical world at Kenilworth theatre
The Priory Theatre's cast rehearse for their 2012 pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk.
HIGH-speed fun, sharp banter and a seriously tall giant feature in this year’s pantomime at the Talisman in Kenilworth.
The team have plucked their finest talents to star in the theatre’s production of Jack and the Beanstalk, which opens with a matinee performance tomorrow (Saturday) and runs until Saturday January 5.
Director Stephen Duckham has blended a strong cast with experienced Talisman choreographer Wendy McClay and many of the theatre’s stage regulars and is looking forward to another successful and popular run.
He said: “Pantomime must have magical qualities in its look as well as story and I have a great team of production and backstage staff to ensure that this happens.”
These include designer Wendy Morris working on the set design, Chris Ward on costumes, Dik Thacker on sound and Ian Roberts on lights.
The story is set in a village whose inhabitants live in the shadow of an evil Giant (Tom Garner) residing above the clouds with his evil henchman, Slime. Jack (Amanda Dodd) is determined to stand up to the Giant and save his family from destitution.
His luck changes when five gold pieces turn into magic beans. They grow into an enormous beanstalk that enables him to climb up to Cloud Land.
Together with his family, a goodly Squire (Mike Santos), Fairy Greenbean (Fay Staton) and, of course, Daisy the Cow, many adventures follow, before the inevitable happy ending.
Dame regular Steve Smith is back for this show as Dame Durden - and audiences can expect a different fancy frock at every turn.
The theatre is trying an experiment with tickets this year. Because there are often requests for a few extra seats for parties that have already booked, the theatre is holding back a few tickets for each show and making them available at ‘curtain up’. So anyone who is in the area and decides they would like a last-minute ticket will be in with a chance of obtaining one (or two).
The show will be performed every evening at 7.30pm, with additional matinees on weekends at 3.30pm, during the run apart from Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
