Exciting racing and soaring temperatures drew crowds to the banks of the River Avon in Warwick, as the town Boat Club's annual regatta took place on Saturday.
Rowing clubs from across the country descended on Myton Fields for the event, which provided a full day’s racing for crews across a wide range of abilities and age ranges from novices and juniors to elite veterans. Being a primary regatta, Warwick also actively encourages rowers new to the sport to take part, with special races being held for them.

Cake, tea and a tasty barbecue kept spectators fed and watered as the crews raced over 500 metres upstream against the picturesque backdrop of Warwick Castle. As ever, the notorious twists and turns of the course proved tricky for even some of the more experienced crews, with a few getting more acquainted with the water than they might have hoped.

After a long day of hotly-contested racing, the regatta was brought to a close with a presentation of pewter tankards (or ‘pots’) for the winners, and a special Victor Ludorum award to the club that notched up the most wins. For the second year running, this went to Stratford-on-Avon Boat Club, who managed eight wins during the day.
