Dancing post boxes, Welsh choirs and morris dancers should feature in the opening ceremony of the next Olympics, according to children at Barford St Peter's Primary School.
The year three pupils have sent a letter - with illustrations - to both Mayor of London Boris Johnson and chairman of the 2012 Olympics committee Lord Sebastian Coe with their ideas for the event in London.

Other suggestions include Harry Potter flying on his broomstick and acrobats forming the shape of Tower Bridge in London.

Class teacher Kathryn Banbury said: "Perhaps one of the more unusual ideas was from Angus who felt that there should be a countdown followed by a spontaneous shower of rain to represent the great British weather.

"I am hoping for a reply and I will be watching the opening ceremony with baited breath. If I see a dancing post box I will know they have taken our ideas on board!"

She added: "The children have been very interested in the Olympics - it's such a shame that it happens over the summer. They have been interested in the Paralympics as well and they noted themselves that the coverage was not as good, so we discussed that in class."

Angus, eight, said: "I liked the idea of making a map of Britain part of the ceremony and having morris dancers. I have never tried cream tea myself but I think it's a good idea to serve it at the Olympics. My favourite part of this year's Olympics was the opening ceremony."

Pheobe, seven, added: "I think there should be ballerinas performing. I think Boris Johnson will find our letter helpful."
