PUPILS at Southam Primary School have been rewarded for achievement in their after-school activities.
At a recent assembly some of the youngsters were given Children’s University awards for their extra-curricular efforts.

Former pupil Catherine, who now attends Southam College, came along to show her gold awards.

She had been given the certific
ate and medal by Warwick University the evening before for completing 72 hours of out-of-school activities while at Southam Primary School, which included dancing and pottery. Current pupils Emily and Emily Louise were presented with silver awards and Alex, Christopher and Callum were given bronze awards.

Deputy head Emma Longworth said: “The evening at Warwick University was wonderful and the assembly was a fantastic way to celebrate the achievements of the children who have participated in after-school activities.

“We would like to thank all those involved in running the clubs.”

Other pupils at the school have received a certificate for completing a six-week cycling proficiency course.

The ten and 11-year-olds all passed which, according to the Warwickshire County Council training officers who ran the course, is very rare.

Headteacher Jennifer Jackson said: “Everybody is proud of the children.

“The aim of the course is not just to teach cycling skills but also to develop an awareness and promote safer attitudes which will enable them to become safer road cyclists.”
