PUPILS and staff at Myton School have paid tribute to a former pupil who died after her heart stopped beating by installing a life-saving piece of equipment at the school.
SADS UK, a charity that funds research into sudden arrhythmic death syndrome, donated the automated external defibrillator to the school - and a group of pupils and staff have now undergone training to enable them to use it.
Headteacher Paul MacIntyre said: “As Myton School is one of the largest in Warwickshire, we were immensely pleased to receive this defibrillator.”
Pupils and staff have been holding assemblies to raise awareness of the condition and how the defibrillator - which provides voice prompts - works.
The charity says that using a defibrillator alongside CPR can increase the chance of saving a life of a person suffering a cardiac arrest to 50 per cent.
