THE MAN who will switch-on Leamington’s Tree of Light has expressed his delight at being asked to support such a good cause.
People can dedicate a tree light to a loved one and make a donation to Macmillan Cancer Support in what is now an annual Christmas fundraising campaign organised by the club.
Cllr Michael Kinson, chairman of Warwick District Council, has been given the honour of switching on the tree outside Leamington town hall as part of the town’s Christmas lights switch-on event on Sunday.
Cllr Kinson, said: “As the council’s chairman I’m delighted to have been asked by the Rotary Club of leamington to switch on its Tree of Light on Sunday.
“During my year in Office I am supporting Myton Hospice and Castel From but I’m very happy to give my support to Macmilan Cancer Support which does such wonderful work.”
Macmillan provides practical, medical and financial support and campaigns for better cancer care.
In Warwickshire about 3,700 people are diagnosed with cancer each year and Macmillan has recently funded a number of professionals in the county to work with cancer patients and their families.
The charity also offers online support and a helpline which took calls from more than 500 people in Warwickshire last year.
The Rotary Club’s trees, the other of which the other is at St Margaret’s church in Whitnash, will shine throughout Christmas.
