THE legacy of antiques expert and supporter of Leamington’s art gallery David Barby will live on, thanks to a donation of a painting in his honour.

Members of the Friends of Leamington Artr Gallery (Flag) have donated an oil painting, The River Leam, Thaw (1946), by Stephen Bone, to the venue’s collection after raising the funds to buy it as a way to commemorate Barby.

The work will join three other paintings by Bone, who served as a civilian camouflage officer for four years, showing Leamington during his time as an official war artist during the Second World War.

Barby was a keen supporter of Flag and had donated two paintings by Leamington artists to the gallery in 2009 - both of which are on display.

The gallery is keen to hear from anyone who thinks they know the spot on the River Leam that is depicted in the painting. Call 742700.
